Magento: eCommerce for Cool People
A new open source eCommerce engine is on the horizon and let me be the first to say, “It looks good. Very good.” It’s called Magento and it looks to be a breath of fresh air for anyone using other open source eCommerce solutions. It boasts about cutting edge features, community support, scalability and a few others. I haven’t had the chance to test it out (it’s not available yet for public download), but I’ll certainly be one of the first to download it and test it out 
Take a quick glance at the Roadmap and you will see that it will be in beta until at least the beginning of 2008, so no production use until then; but don’t let that dampen your spirits… start using it now and become one of the beta testing pioneers. This is definitely one to keep an eye on and knowing it inside-out is just another skill to add to the list
