Web Standards, Accessibility, and Usability Group of the Delaware Valley

Our FIRST successful Refresh DelVal Meetup!

Our first ever RefreshDelVal.org Meetup took place this past Thursday at Buck’s Coffee Bar in Lambertville, NJ. Jim Wurster and I, BJ, were the only attendees, but we still had a good meetup.

Jim and I discussed why web standards are important to the present and future of the web in the framework of Tim Berners-Lee’s vision of a semantic web, where the core code is stable and any device can interact with it efficiently. Both of us are currently on the learning curve when it comes to true accessibility, we’ve found. A couple sites were reviewed and improvements suggested, mostly in the area of text resizing and taking into account different user window sizes and vision needs. We hope to make greater strides in the future, aiming for Bobby and WAI compatibility by doing things like adding skiplink hrefs and accesskeys.

We hope more folks join us for our next Meetup! If you’re interested in being notified it’s free to join our little corner of Meetup, the Refresh DelVal Web Standards Meetup Group. By joining you’ll automatically receive notification of all future meetings, receive posting access to our forum, and get news updates.
